Navigation System Support

What is a Navigation System?

Every community has a complex social infrastructure that protects and enhances the lives of its community members. Resources are available on a city level (municipal) and community level, provincially, and federally. A federal program, for example, is funneled from one of the many Federal Governments to a local municipal or community organization to deliver the funding and programs.

By establishing a navigation system, Kujali hopes to support community members enhance their knowledge and expertise with understanding the multiple levels of government, and how they can access resources to support their family members.

Kujenga Wellness Project, in collaboration with Aset Group Consulting and Counselling Services has complied listings of community-based resources families can access. These lists are dynamic and every changing.

In March 2021, interns from Aset Group and Kujenga developed a google drive of Black-led and general community resources. The list is maintained on a regular basis. Counsellors from the Kujali line use the resources to support community members access the resources they need.

Why Choose Black Family Support Line?

In 2019, the Kujenga team brain stormed on ways they can support Black families better with navigating resources in their community. One of the founder members explained how frustrated she felt with the limited number of resources for Black youth and parents. This experience was coupled with the systemic issues Black families face while navigating community resources designed and funded to support them.

The Kujenga team was not able to fully respond to all of the concerns that existed within the community, such as housing, food insecurity, intimate partner violence, etc.. However, the team was able to identify areas that they could support by developing the Kujali Black Family Support Line.

How can we help?

In each initial call, our counsellors speak with you to gain a better understanding of:

  • Identifying information
  • Your family’s unique needs
  • Your family’s strengths and areas of resiliency
  • An understanding of your motivation for support and change

A phone or in-person assessment follows. Once the assessment is completed, an individualized service plan is conducted with the family.

Once goals are developed, the counsellor and the family determines a plan for moving forward. The counsellor checks-in on the family on a predetermined time to assess and provide additional support.

Initial Assessments include:

  • Strengths and Needs of the Child and Family
  • Patient Stress Questionnaire
  • Cultural Genogram
  • Support Network Map
  • Family Assessment Questionnaire
